berry pickin'

Newman and I, and Leslie Anne and Mike went blueberry picking on Signal Hill today. This was Newman's first venture off leash into the bushes. He loved it. We met up with a nice black lab named Abby and Newman followed her into George's Pond for a swim. This is Newman right after that swim, feeling rather refreshed. He managed to eat his fair share of blueberries right off the bushes too!

Newman visits Brigus

A few days ago Newman and I ventured out of the city to visit Dina, RM, and Cassidy in Brigus. We had a lovely time... Newman took his first swim in the ocean with Cassidy and played well!

RAIN

It's been raining in St. John's for three days. Newman is feeling a little housebound but still insists on napping outside, in a mud puddle, with the rain pouring down on him.

The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain" (H.W. Longfellow) and enjoy!

Mikey and Newman...

This is Mike Walsh, Newman's poppy!
Newman loves his poppy!!

The other thing about our visit to Monica's yesterday is that she has four 7.5 week old Newfoundland pups at the moment. Here's Newman, Hanna (she's 7 months), and one of the pups.

Newman visits "The Newf Spa"

Yesterday Newman, Liz and I went to Flatrock to visit Monica and her fabulous Newfoundland dogs and and Spa facilities. This is Liz, Newman and Giovanni who is a lovely, stately creature. Newman will go back to visit Monica and all the others on Thursdays when I'm at work. Should be a great time for him!!

Newman and Uncle Bob

Two days ago Newman took his first trip to (of many, I'm sure) to see Uncle Bob. This is Uncle Bob and Liz with Newman having a quick cuddle... Newman also had a chance to crusie the hallways of Uncle Bob's residence and meet quite a few other folks. Very good fun!

the Newman saunter...

... this is the new-found Newman saunter!

In A Month & A Day

Here I am with my Auntie Liz!!

The first picture was taken on July 17th, 2005 my second day at my new home. And the next photo was taken on Thursday August 18th, 2005.

So that is how much I've grown in a month and a day.
Just wait until next month.

I think that my Auntie Liz will have to get a crane to lift me up like that.

I guess my getting carried days are coming to an end! Wah! Wah!

after the swim...

Newman gives his Auntie a major lick...

to the pond...

Newman went for his first big dip today. We came across two young guys who were jumping off the dock at Long Pond. Newman's survival instincts kicked in, I think, as he chased the boys to the end of the dock and excitedly watched them swim around.

me and Mae

... waitin' for LL...

his shadow...

"When these shadows brought into the minds of older people, other thoughts, and showed them different images. When they stole from their retreats, in the likenesses of forms and faces from the past, from the grave, from the deep, deep gulf, where the things that might have been, and never were, are always wandering" (unknown).

the COUSINS

Koda (above)) and Mae (below)... both sweet and curious... and they teach Newman many a good lesson!

Newman's sister

This is Roo, the sweet, cranky, and very patient cat. She's 11. Newman spends a lot of time looking for her, and lately he's taken to barking in her face, asking her to play. That's where her patience comes in. She spends quite a bit of time on the bathroom window sill, ready to pop out the window if Newman gets to close!

Paws!!!

This is Newman this morning, August 15th... his toe nails and paws are growing really fast! So fast, in fact, that it's hard to keep up with the clippings.

Newman and Liz visit Dr. Simms...

Liz and Wanita took Newman to his 2nd appointment to see Colleen today. He weighed in at 31.2 pounds... that's 12.2 pounds more than 3.5 weeks ago. Grow grow grow...

looking for Roo

Our cat, Roo, spends quite a bit of time playing with, and running from Newman. She's behind the door there... and he's found her!

He's growing!!

For the last 5 days, everyday, I've noticed a change in Newman. His front legs are getting longer, and his toe nails are growing at a rapid rate. He's slept through the night 4 nights in a row now!

having a sip of water...

These two young guys were enjoying a water fight in the fountain at the St. John's Folk Festival when Newman came along for a sip...

the other mama!!

Here's Renee -- she and Newman will meet in September for the first time. Notice Renee's cycling shirt - the Newfoundland flag... and a Newfoundland dog... ha ha ha!

The Auntie's play!!!

... Mussels in the Corner at the folk festival, along with 987 others!!

Newman at the Accordian Revolution!!

It's hard to see (on the left), but 989 accordian players jammed out Mussels in the Corner for 7 minutes at the festival yesterday, a record for the books (previously attempted in Kimberly, B.C., with 643). Above right Newman poses and takes in a few scratches with his Auntie Tonji while enjoying some lamb lung...

Newman

This is Newman on August 2, 2005. He's a Newfoundland dog, born in Torbay, Newfoundland, May 21, 2005. He was the only boy of a litter of 5, and (I'm pretty sure) the only pup to stay on the island. I've decided to document some of his first months, for the fun of it. I'll include some photos, some tales of his growth, friend/family stories about him, and the places we go...
